The Federal Trade Commission has proposed a new rule that would ban so-called "junk fees" -- those hidden charges commonly added by hotels, airlines, and restaurants.
The rule could put an end to those bogus charges like "resort fees," "destination fees," and "convenience fees." Under the new rule, corporations would be required to clearly communicate all mandatory fees to consumers, which would make it easier for customers to compare prices and shop for the best deal. The Biden administration says the move would save Americans billions of dollars every year by cutting the bogus fees from concert and sports tickets, hotel bookings, car rentals and more. Companies that violate the rule could be forced to refund customers.
