Starbucks Says 'Goodbye' to Plastic Straws

Plastic drinking straws have been all over the news lately, becoming one of the most high-profile issues with the environment. According to ABC 7 Chicago, "Straws add up to about 2,000 tons of the nearly 9 million tons of plastic waste that ends up in waters around the globe each year."

Starbucks just announced this morning that by 2020, the massive global chain will no longer offer plastic straws for their customers. 


Instead, they'll offer biodegradable straws and specially-designed tops like this one:
