Why Darius Rucker Made Lady A’s Hillary Scott Cry

On November 2, 2007, Lady A made their Opry debut.

On January 21, 2021, the trio was invited by country music superstar and longtime friend, Darius Rucker, to join the Grand Ole Opry family.

Throughout their decade-plus career, the trio have been shocked to sweep trophies at award shows, but this surprise invite sent Hillary Scott weeping on the wooden floor of the Opry stage.

In a recent interview with Cody Alan, Hillary reveals why this moment is a standout for her, Charles Kelly, and Dave Haywood.

“It’s just over the years, there have only been a handful of times where we have been genuinely surprised, like, could not have imagined what happened, happening,” says Hillary. “This was one of those moments. It was the last thing I could have seen coming that day.”

“For all of us, there is no greater honor in country music than to be invited into the Opry family,” Hillary continues. “It’s like, we will always have a home there!”
