Here's What You Can Do With Leftover Wine

Experts Judge The Annual International Wine Challenge Entries

Leftover wine? Yeah, me neither.

BUT for those of you that find a half-bottle of wine in your fridge – the one you’ll end up throwing out because it doesn’t taste as good as when you first opened it? Well, here are some ways to enjoy that leftover wine …

  • Sangria Slushies: Throw that leftover wine in a blender with some watermelon and summer berries, add a little mint and maybe a leaf of basil, and a lot of ice.
  • Freeze it in ice cube trays: Next time you want to add some ice to your favorite rosé, add the wine cubes instead of ice cubes to avoid diluting your favorite vino on a hot summer day.
  • Granita: This sorbet-like Italian dessert is super easy to make. Dilute your leftover wine with a little fruit juice (something tangy like cranberry works best), include any other additions you might like -- chopped herbs, lemon or lime zest, the sky’s the limit. Pour the concoction into a shallow pan and pop it in the freezer. After an hour or so, take out the frozen dish and scrape it with a fork into shavings. You’ve got your new favorite boozy summertime dessert!
