Derlin Newey is an 89-year-old pizza delivery man from Roy, Utah. Newey had gone back to work delivering pizzas after his monthly bills became too expensive for his social security checks alone.
Newey had been working 30 hours a week delivering pizzas for Papa Johns when he quickly gained attention after one of his customers, Carlos Valdez, began recording Newey and posting him at the Valdez's home on TikTok. Newey became known for saying, "Hello, are you looking for some pizza?"
Fans and followers of Valdez's TikTok page were frustrated that Newey had to work so much at his age. Valdez got the idea to raise funds for Newey from his followers. They were able to raise $12,069.00 for Newey and they arranged a date to surprise him with the check and a custom shirt featuring a cartoon of Newey holding a pizza box that reads, "Hello, are you looking for some pizza?"
Newey was overcome with emotion and said, "How do I ever say thank you? I don’t know what to say,”
